Dear Sir:

It is my understanding that your letter (signed by WD Martin for JW Griffith) asks for an answer only on the point raised in the last paragraph. The observationn cabin, as indicated in the drawing received with your letter, appears to be satisfactory for fire protection observation.

We offer, however, comments on other points raised in your letter.

You apparently consider the alternative of leaving our present tower in place in the event that it occupies the highest point of the hill. We would be glad to enjoy the facilities provided by the construction of a tower, even 75 feet in height, provided any obstruction to the view would be on the north or northwest side thereof. I would judge that the foundations and erection of the tower could be oriented to meet this provision in any case.

In the event that your aim could be best achieved by construction upon the site occupied by our present tower, (St Cleophas) we would be prepared to consider its demolition at your expense, provided the Department would guarantee that, in the event that the new tower is no longer required for defence purposes, it would remain indefinitely at the disposal of our fire protection service. As an alternative, the Department's acceptance of the obligation to rebuild a tower equivalent in efficiency to the present structure would be acceptable.

Yours very truly,
