11 – 17 Jul 59

Re-cabling of all video cables with new type junction box commenced this month.

27 Jul 59

F/L LA Kaeding transferred in from Station Uplands as new SCEO in replacement of F/L CM Thornson transferred to AFHQ AMTs, effective 15 Aug.

4 Aug 59

S/L PV Brodeur from 5 Air Div HQ took over as new COpsO in replacement of S/L CAS Anderson transferred to ADCHQ, effective 1 Sep.

7 Aug 59

Handing-over parade, W/C WM Garton takes over command of RCAF Station Falconbridge vice W/C VL Berg transferred to 6 TACC.

18 Aug 59

Completion of caulking of radome.

22 – 28 Aug 59

A test equipment calibration party completed set-up of FPS-6 test equipment.

26 Aug 59

ME Roadeo competition held at RCAF Station Falconbridge, with Mr. Charlesbois as winner for civilians and LAC Poikkimaki winner for the service personnel category.

28 Aug 59

Visit of members of Permanent Joint Board of Defence – Tour of Operations building and Townsite area. Vice Chief of Air Staff, A/V/M Smith in attendance.

2 Sep 59

Visit of 17 members of the Ontario Municipalities Association on annual congress at Sudbury, Ontario. Unclassified tour of Ops Building and Townsite.

3 Sep 59

Radar maintenance section completed set-up of FPS-6 test equipment. Operations participated in Big Blast Red Eagle exercise. DCL formally signed documents which handed over classrooms extension to the RCAF. Mr. Canning from AFHQ accepted on behalf of RCAF and F/O LA Kaeding, SCEO, on behalf of RCAF Station Falconbridge.

Mr. Kenny and Mr. Cook of National Research Council installed ASTRID equipment.

10 Sep 59

Operations participated in Big Blast Bank Clerk exercise.

15 Sep 59

Mr. Davidson of RCA Victor reported for completion of overhaul of 15-J1D Trainer.

17 Sep 59

Held conference with personnel of 2420 AC&W Squadron (Auxiliary) London regarding summer and week-end training. S/L Brodeur, COpsO, chaired the conference. S/L Williams, CO, F/O Nelligan, CAdO, and F/O Carpenter, RSO, represented the London Squadron. Operations participated in Big Blast Red Eagle Exercise.

Northern Electric Co. personnel arrived for annual overhaul of FPS-3.

21 – 25 Sep 59

Water reservoir put in operation by contractors.

24 Sep 59

Operations participated in Big Blast – Red Eagle – Bank Clerk – Cat’s eye 10 and Straw boss exercise.

25 Sep 59

Otter aircraft from S&R Trenton made available for a three day Land Search and Rescue training exercise. Four officers, seven airmen and civilian doctor participated.

26 Sep 59

Station Falconbridge in collaboration with the Sudbury Kiwanis Club participated in annual Kids’ Day. 40 Sudbury and district youngsters were guests of this station for the day.

AC&W Falconbridge – Annual maintenance shut-down commenced for 6 day period.

Overhaul of FPS-3 completed

Azimuth Time Recorder shipped by aircraft and placed in service.

19 Oct 59

East and West towers air-inflated radomes removed.

22 Oct 59

Mr. FE Wright of AFHQ signed as taking over for the RCAF the first eight units of the 36 new married quarters. F/L LA Kaeding, SCEO, signed as taking over the sewage lagoon put in operations by Carrington Construction Co Ltd.

Operations participated in Red Eagle Big Blast exercise.

24 Oct 59

Visit of Air Cadets from 669 RCAC Squadron, Jamestown (Wawa), Ontario.

30 Oct 59

Operations participated in Big Blast exercise.

10 Nov 59

F/L LA Kaeding, SCEO, signed as taking over 12 new PMQs from DCL.

11 Nov 59

Personnel from this unit participated in Remembrance Day services held in Capreol, Coniston and Sudbury.

20 Nov 59

Operations participated in Cueball 26 exercise.

24 Nov 59

Transmitter I site and receiver site converted to commercial power.

23 – 25 Nov 59

Power shut- down. All radars switched off. Building in darkness except for special areas. Heat continued as usual except for 12 hour period on 25 Nov. Radar equipment back on air at 2359 hours, 25 Nov.

25 Nov 59

F/L LA Kaeding, SCEO, took over 16 new PMQs which completed the handover. All 36 new PMQs occupied.

26 Nov 59

Operations participated in Exercise Cat’s Eye 13.

Message Centre and Crypto Centre moved to fourth floor of Ops Building.
