ANNUAL HISTORICAL REPORT - 1981

  1. In 1981, the Ground Environment Branch has witnessed and/or taken part in the following main events:

14 - 16 Jan 81

The DCOS C&E Technical Visit was carried out by a group of equipment specialists headed by Major Choquette. No major problems were encountered and the station was congratulated for its excellent maintenance practice.

3 - 5 Feb 81

Lac St. Denis was chosen to test the TDDL interface unit (TIU), one of the steps of the ROCC program.

16 - 17 Mar 81

A defensive driving course was given on the station. Twenty-two military, four civilians and 5 dependents attended.

30 Mar - 3 Apr 81

Linesman course from Kingston hold their practical pole climbing at the GATR site.

21 - 23 Apr 81

The 71 Comm. Group line troop carried out its GATR Antenna Farm inspection.

10 - 15 May 81

Lac St. Denis passed its Operational Evaluation.

8 June 81

Small arms familiarization training was carried out at CFB Montreal. Twenty-three military attended.

14 July 81

New solid state Planned Position Indicators, UPA-62A, were received and installed.

19 July 81

Captain Forget MAC was posted to Lac St. Denis as CEOpsO to replace Captain Verner.

18 - 19 Aug 81

A team of technicians from CFS Chibougamau visited Lac St. Denis in order to test their pulse transformer. Lt. Marchildon was posted this summer and no replacement has been offered. Three MCpls. And one Cpl., Radar Techs, all FYQ-47 trained, took their release during that period.

While reading this Historical Report I found that I have made history. The three M/Cpls were Denis Melancon, Hervey Leclerc and Claude Poissant. The Cpl. was Frank Lemire. It never occurred to me that this would be important enough to make it into the Historical Records.

23 - 30 Sep 81

Two more sessions of small arms familiarization training were given during this month. A total of sixty personnel attended.

28 Sep - 2 Oct 81

Linseman course from Kingston held their practical pole climbing at the GATR site.

October 81

The fire hall held three courses for the auxiliary fire brigade during this month. A total of nineteen persons attended.

November 81

No major activity to report.

December 81

No major activity to report.
