Brief History
CFS Lac St. Denis

CFS Lac St. Denis is the oldest of all stations which comprise the Pinetree Line System of NORAD.

Construction of the station began in 1949 and in April 1952 was officially opened. On 1 July 1952 it became fully operational as No. 11 Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron.

On 1 Nov 1952, it became No. 1 Air Defence Control Centre and remained as such until its disbandment as Montreal NORAD Sector on 15 Sep 1862.

On 15 Sep 1962, the operational role of 11 AC&W Squadron changed from manual to a SAGE reporting agency operationally responsible to Bangor NORAD Sector. The building construction to house the SAGE equipment commenced May 1961 and was completed on 31 Mar 1962.

In Sep 63, testing into the Ottawa NORAD Sector (ONS) was completed and Lac. St. Denis became operationally responsible to ONS. Until 15 Oct 63, Lac St. Denis was also responsible for control of CF-104 test flights.

Today, the station is operationally responsive to ADGHQ North Bay.
