Jan 65

24 hour-a-day operation was resumed on completion of Exercise Cree Dance. The unit participated in six operational exercises under direction of ONS. AT-309 IFF antenna was installed. A liaison visit to Northern Telephone Company was made by F/O Stevens and WO2 Johnson. Two airmen were posted to Sydney for FPS-27 course; one airman to Clinton for UPS-35 course; one airman to SMCU North Bay for familiarization and one NCO to Camp Borden for SSTS. F/O DE Harper arrived as SCEO on release of F/L JJR Therien. One stake truck was sold through CADC and one station wagon sold through CADA. A projectionist course was organized and conducted by SGTO. Party arrived to conduct SOCE Inspection.

Feb 65

The new Canadian flag was received 1 Feb 65. There was a major breakdown on #5 engine in Power Plant. SID personnel arrived to investigate loss of electronic test equipment. Party arrived to conduct SOPA Admin. Inspection. A Medical Liaison visit was made by two officers from ADC. MRP from Canadian General Electric arrived to modify the TWT amplifiers in the FPS-26. MRP from Northern Electric arrived to perform the annual overhaul of ancillary equipment at the Operations Site.

Mar 65

AT-914 omni-directional antenna installed on IFF equipment. MRP from Burroughs arrived to assist in solving SIF problems. An A-17 Station wagon was sold. An MSE supply group was set up and is operating. Investigation into the loss of tube tester is in progress. A Community Chest Campaign was carried out on the unit, resulting in contributions of $512.00 SOPA M&I Inspection in progress. S/L Jones and three officers arrived and conducted a Radar Section Assessment. The results were very good.

Apr 65

CGE party arrived and conducted tests and studies to improve the ECCM capability of the MDF channel in the FPS-27. Many chassis removed and taken back to their plant for further tests. Van-Cal arrived and set up for business outside FPS-26 tower. Stake truck was handed over to Station Foymount. Accounts section establishment decreased by the loss of one Corporal position. One AFP man attending Small Arms Instructor course at Station North Bay.

May 65

MRP from Westinghouse arrived and modified the wave-guide system on the FPS-27 to reduce SF6 gas loss. This is Project 29. Westinghouse team arrived and spent three days trying out new alignment procedures for the FPS-27. STSO/SOSME Staff visit. S/L Lahaye, RC Chaplain, made a liaison visit. One Senior NCO went to Camp Borden on Nuclear Defence Course.

Jun 65

OA-3751/FST-2 installation approved and equipment was accepted. MRP from Marconi arrived and carried out Project 13 on FPS-26. MRP from Marconi arrived and conducted inspection of mechanical portions of FPS-26 antenna. Security staff visit. G/C Bowes paid a short official visit. Annual audit was made by SOAF staff. A building was brought over from Kempis Mountain and set up behind MSE.

Jul 65

MRP from CGE returned and installed the equipment they had borrowed from the FPS-27.

Aug 65

All radomes were painted by MRP. Ground Training Staff visit in progress.

Sep 65

MRP from Marconi arrived to perform overhaul on all ancillary equipment at the Operations Site. Station personnel were trained in the handling of small arms. Two vehicles arrived from Centralia for Recruiting Centre in Kirkland Lake to be serviced by our MSE Section. SLogO attended Supply Conference in Command. DOT party arrived with their technical van, and conducted a spectrum analysis of the FPS-27 to get information for inclusion in their publications. A MC party arrived to inspect FPS-27 plenum chamber filtering system. AMC party arrived to make backlash checks on FPS-26.

Oct 65

WO Calvert arrived for the annual inspection of Armaments & Explosives. Van-Cal arrived and set up their van outside FPS-6 Tower. MRP from Marconi arrived to study the use of FPS-27 Log Amp. Test Set. MRP from Marconi arrived to give instruction in the use of test equipment to Search technicians. Night answering service was installed in DMCC by Northern Telephone Company. A party from NRC conducted balloon trials. Firing practice on 25 yard range was carried out for many personnel. An A-21 vehicle was taken off the road, US, and a new engine installed. Tool kits K36 and K37 prepared and issued to Telecom Sections.

Nov 65

An EDP exercise was conducted. An A-11 station wagon received from Weston; an A-5 staff car from North Bay; an A-5 staff car sent to Lac St. Denis. A stocktaking was carried out in Clothing Stores.

Dec 65

Western Flyer 40 passenger bus returned to Downsview. A re-conditioned bus was received. A permanent duty storekeeper now on duty during silent house as of 1630 hours 16 Dec 65.
