INFORMATION

The decision to standardize the nomenclature of the radar extension plan units presents certain administrative difficulties in that the temporary aircraft and control and warning units do not conform with the new definitions and therefore it has been decided to disband No. 2 Air Control and Warning Unit, Chatham, NB, and in its place to form No. 21 Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron which will be located temporarily at Chatham pending the availability of accommodation at the permanent site approximately May 53. AOC ADC is to advise AFHQ when this unit is relocated in its permanent site.

INTENTION

To form 21 Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron at Chatham, NB.

EXECUTION

Effective Date

No. 21 Aircraft & Warning Squadron is to form effective 1 Dec 52.

Functions

The functions of this unit are:

(a) to provide control facilities for fighter squadrons of ADC.

(b) to collect, evaluate and display information on the air situation within its area of responsibility for use by military agencies and civil defence authorities.

(c) to provide early warning services within the area of surveillance.

(d) to commit such air defence forces as may be assigned to it when authorized to do so.

Command

The officer appointed to command 21 Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron is to be the Commanding Officer as defined by QR (Air) Article 1.02 (xxi).

Control

Functional and administrative control to be exercised by the AOC ADC.
