Significant Events

421 Squadron History

421 Squadron reformed at Chatham on 15 September 1949, went to RAF Odiham on 19 January 1951 and returned to Canada on 12 November 1951. 421 (F) Squadron, equipped with Canadair (North American) F-86 Sabre aircraft then proceeded overseas on Operation "Leapfrog II" between 28 September 1952 and 10 October 1952 arriving at 2 (F) Wing Grostenquin on 11 October 1952. 421 Interceptor Day Fighter (IDF) Squadron disbanded at 2 Wing Grostenquin on 1 August 1963 and ferried their aircraft to Scottish Aviation Ltd in Prestwick for disposal on 12 August 1963. The Squadron was reactivated as 421 Strike/Attack Squadron with a limited number of Canadair (Lockheed) CF-104 Starfighter aircraft and pilots on 2 December 1963. The squadron moved to 4 Wing Baden-Soellingen on 26 February 1964.
