An informal party was held in the Officers' Mess for W/C JF Edwards, who is returning home to Canada on posting to AFHQ. W/C Edwards was COpsO at this unit and is being replaced by W/C J Foster who was CO of RCAF Station North Bay, Ontario.

S/L J MacKay assumes position of COpsO pending the arrival of W/C Foster from Canada.
9 Mar 54
S/L J MacKay, Acting COpsO, proceeded on TD to Air Division HQ to attend a conference on flying operations.
12 Mar 54
CO departed by Beechcraft on liaison visit to 3 Wing and 4 Wing. He was accompanied by G/C LR Randall, SPSO at 1 Air Division. G/C JB Harvey and party of RAF, CJS (L) naval and military members departed by air for 4 Wing. Prior to their departure they toured the station, visiting the Wing Operations Building, Station Store and infrastructure facilities.

W/C WM Foster, new COpsO, proceeded to Air Division for interview with the AOC.

CO held a conference in his office for squadron commanders and the COpsO on future movements of pilots within the Wings and squadrons.

Visitors to the unit were F/O F Potvin from Air Division HQ who conferred with the COpsO on controlling aircraft aspects for Operation "Dividend". F/O Potvin is the RCAF liaison with the French Aircraft Control (CATC) in Metz.

F/L B Sheasby visited the unit from Air Division and conferred with the COpsO on aircraft matters.

CO convened flight safety forum in Wing Ops Bldg which he chaired.

G/C Spruston accompanied by W/C Griffiths arrived at 1130 hours to visit Operations.

F/L Cameron of Air Div/Org visited the station and spent considerable time with F/L Jones on the subject of switchboard staff. This problem was tentatively ironed out to the satisfaction of all concerned.

W/C Banville completed contact training at 3 Wing and takes over as COpsO this Unit.

Counter Punch Pre-Alert Stage II ordered today. Operations Room immediately put on 24 hours status with an Operations Officer always available. All flying training ceased and aircraft being brought to the highest state of readiness possible.

The COpsO briefed all the Sabre pilots on Counterpunch covering all aspects as far as security would allow and the special regulations in effect for the exercise.
