When the RCAF first commenced using the airfield at Rabat, the Canadians in their naive outlook of life thought nothing of entering this area. However, after a few airmen got mugged and nearly beaten to death, the place was finally declared "off limits". Apparently the city inside was a veritable labyrinth, and impossible for a foreigner to find his way out once inside. There was also a woman's prison inside this city where the inmates could only get freedom by buying their way out. This was accomplished by prostituting themselves to pay the corrupt officials.
