This photo was taken in front of the road sign at the entrance to Decimomannu in April 1958 while I was attached with 421 Squadron.
When we arrived at Decimomannu we were briefed on how to conduct ourselves and what to watch-out for. One point in the briefing was that the young thieves in the area liked to "hit you" while running at great speeds, so hang on to cameras, binos, bags, etc. After this picture was taken, LACs "Bob" Cooper, Jack Woodall, and myself proceeded to the train station for a day in Cagliari. I had my camera around my neck and resting on my chest. Bob had his camera slung over his right shoulder. As we approached the station a young urchin snatched Cooper's camera at a "flying run" from behind. It momentarily snagged on Bob's arm and this was enough time for him to react by putting out his foot and tripping the culprit. The would-be thief hit the gravel face down. As I recall, Bob grabbed the kid, who was about 12 years old, and hauled him to his feet. He was so damned scared I thought he would faint. Cooper gave him a stern look, shook him a few times and let him go. I didn't hear of any other like incidents during the rest of our stay.
