Operation "Great Trek" coming to a close and the squadrons operating at 3 (F) Wing. Detachment Commander, W/C JF Edwards departed by road for 3 (F) Wing to assume command of 2 (F) Wing Detachment.

13 Aug 53

With the squadrons deployed to 3 (F) Wing, the usual scene of flying activity has become a non entity with the exception of routine liaison visits by the Expeditor and Comm Flight. CO made a routine liaison trip by air to 3 (F) Wing and visited the Detachment Commander and OsC 421 and 430 Squadrons.

17 Aug 53

No flying activities amongst the squadrons as all have departed for 3 Wing. French contractor busily engaged in initial stages of contract on resurfacing the runway.

31 Aug 53

August has been an exceptionally good month for weather. It is regretful that flying operations had to be curtailed at this unit but an infrastructure aspect, faulty condition of the runway, provoked the deployment of the flying squadrons to 3 (F) Wing for duty. The French contractors have shown a fair spirit of initiative and seem to have endeavored to improve their progress.

1 Sep 53

CO flew to 3 Wing on a liaison visit to the 2 Wing Detachment. He returned before noon. S/L TC Brighton, SOSup, Air Division HQ, departed by air for 3 Wing to complete his investigation. Although our channel of communication are strained between 2 Wing Detachment at 3 Wing, administration is running smoothly and we all endeavor to achieve our ends with a minimum of delay.
