VISITORS
15 June 56 - The Canadian Ambassador to France, His Excellency Jean Desy and Mrs. Desy, accompanied by His Honourable M. Leon Lorain, Secretary General of the Banque Canadian Nationale, paid a visit to 1 (F) Wing.
26 June 56 - A/C CA Cook, Chief Logistics Officer of AMCHQ Ottawa paid a liaison visit to 1 (F) Wing.
ENTERTAINMENT
On 22 June the Band from Training Command Headquarters at Trenton paid a three day visit to 1 (F) Wing. During their stay they held concerts for station personnel plus additional concerts in the neighbouring towns of Montmedy and Longuyon. A Station All Ranks Dance was held on the Saturday night in the Recreation Hall.

Handing-Over Parade of 1 (F) Wing - 26 Jul 56
Prior to handing over at 1 (F) Wing, G/C JD Somerville DSO, DFC, CD, presented the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct to 36692 LAC CR Heffern. He also presented the Canadian Forces Declaration to ten NCOs. On completion of the investiture ceremony, G/C Somerville delivered his farewell address to the members of 1 (F) Wing. He then proceeded to the saluting base and met the new Commanding Officer and signed the Handing Over Certificate. At 1415 hrs 26 July G/C DJ Williams assumed command of 1 (F) Wing.

29 July - The Right Reverend Dr. G Dorey, Chief Moderator of the United Church of Canada escorted by W/C Light, Chief Protestant Padre of Air Division arrived at 1 (F) Wing for an informal visit.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
On 10 July the Pipe Band proceeded to Mons, Belgium, to participate in a ceremony of the presentation of a plaque to mark the spot where the 116th Canadian Infantry Battalion stood at the time of the armistice on 11 Nov 1918. General Pearkes VCMP presented the plaque. The Ambassador to Belgium, HE He'bert and W/C Wurtele, the RCAF Air Attache to Belgium were on hand for the ceremony.

DEATHS
9 August - 110470 F/O JRJJ Lambert was killed in an automobile accident. A service funeral was held in the RC Chapel on 13 Aug. On completion of the Church service the funeral party proceeded to Toul Cemetary where a small ceremony was held.
VISITORS
2 Aug - Dr. Newmen, lecturer from the University of London and an English correspondent from Newsweek Magazine conducted a current affairs lecture on the future of NATO.
13 Aug - 25 Canadian Air Cadets visited 1 (F) Wing for two days. During their stay the cadets toured the station, Verdun and the Maginot Line Fort at La Ferte.
27 Aug - Dr. Dray of the University of Toronto gave a current affairs lecture to members of 1 (F) Wing.
28 Aug - Minister of National Defence and party visited 1 (F) Wing.

The visiting party attended a briefing by G/C Williams and afterwards proceeded to 441 Sqn Zulu Tents where they met four pilots of 441 Sqn. During the tour, the guests visited 439 Sqn, also the Control Tower to watch a controlled descent of aircraft by the Senior Flying Control Officer.
Mr. Dave Golden, Deputy Minister DDP, and Mr. DR Roe, Director (UK DDP) visited 1 (F) Wing.
FARNBOROUGH SHOW
On 13 Aug the Commanding Officer plus a number of pilots attended the Annual Air Show at Farnborough, England.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
15 - 16 Aug 56 - 1 (F) Wing Pipe Band played for the International Swim Meet at Namur, Belgium. Teams came from France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and also the Canadian Swimming Team from the Canadian Brigade. The band was entertained by the Belgian Prisoner of War League at which Mr. Bissionette represented the Canadian Embassy.
24 Aug 56 - The Pipe Band played on the TV Show "This is NATO" in London, England. Many NATO countries were represented.

Battle of Britain Day
On Sunday, 16 Sep 56, 1 (F) Wing commemorated Battle of Britain Sunday. The ceremony consisted of church services held by the RC and Protestant Church plus a march past on completion of the church services. Taking the salute was G/C DJ Williams, Commanding Officer of 1 (F) Wing.

Braemer, Scotland
On 6 September 1956, the Pipe Band played at the Royal Braemar Highland Gathering. There were approximately eleven pipe bands present with 1 (F) Wing Band being the only band represented by another country. The Band was honoured by being the only band allowed to play inside an enclosure. Her Majesty the Queen, Duke of Edinborough, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Duke of Kent, Duke of Gloucester and Duchess of Gloucester were present.

DEATHS
224785 F/O MT Tillotson was killed in an aircraft accident at Longuyon, France, on 28 September 1956. A service funeral was held in the Protestant Chapel on 3 October. The funeral party consisted of the Pipe Band, members of 439 Sqn, and the Wing Guard of Honour. The late F/O Tillotson was later interned at Toul Cemetary.
A service funeral was held in the Protestant Chapel for the late 4084 FS CW Bowland on 7 October 1956 who died from natural causes. On completion of the service the funeral party proceeded with the deceased to Toul Cemetary.
410 SQN
On 1 October 1956, 410 Sqn was disbanded at 1 (F) Wing with S/L Fisher being transferred to 441 Sqn. Numerous of the pilots returned to Canada with the remaining members being transferred inter-station-wise to 441 and 439 Sqns.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
On October 2 1956, the 1 (F) Wing Pipe Band played at the Foire de Metz. This is supposed to be the largest exhibition in France. AOC was represented by A/C Clements.

Armistice Day Ceremony
The Armistice Day Ceremony was held at 1 (F) Wing on 11 Nov. Church services conducted by both Protestant and Roman Catholic faiths. A parade was held on the station incuding a cenotaph ceremony in front of No. 4 Hangar. G/C Williams took the salute. Personnel from 1 (F) Wing also participated in an Armistice Day Parade in the town of Montmedy.
Arrival of 445 Sqn
At approximately 1500 hrs on 4 Nov. 1956, the first CF-100 of 445 Sqn touched down at 1 (F) Wing. This marked the arrival of the first CF-100s to No. 1 Air Division.
