The Passing of Lou Hill

May 10, 2001 - The Canadian Aviation Community mourns the passing of Louis J (Lou) Hill - Wing Commander, retired. He died in Kitchener, Ontario on Tuesday, May 8, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 78.

He joined the RCAF in 1941, serving with distinction both in Canada and in Europe. He was at one time the team leader of the T-33 SILVER STARS as well as other aerobatic teams. He is well remembered as commanding officer of No. 1 Fighter OTU in Chatham NB and also as OC with 441 Fighter Squadron at 1 Wing in Marville, France. After a thirty year career with the RCAF, he became active in community affairs, serving in local politics. He served three terms as chairman of the Waterloo Wellington Airport Commission, For ten years, he was the leader of the restoration team of The Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association, who honoured him by dedicating one of the aircraft in his name.
